South Carolina is One Step Closer to Education Freedom

Press Releases · Jan 19, 2023

WASHINGTON – Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million grassroots activists, including thousands of South Carolinians, released the following statement from Executive Director Jessica Anderson commending the South Carolina Senate for passing S. 39, legislation that expands school choice by giving thousands of students scholarships for alternative education options.

“South Carolina parents deserve to have options when it comes to their children’s education. Thanks to the South Carolina Senate passing S. 39, the Palmetto State is one step closer to education freedom. This legislation expands opportunities for thousands of students by allowing families to use state education funds to send their children to the education institution that best fits their needs. In addition to tuition, families would be able to use these scholarship accounts for other needs like textbooks, tutoring, and supplies.

Heritage Action thanks Senator Larry Grooms for sponsoring this legislation and applauds the South Carolina Senate for the bill’s swift consideration and passage. We urge the South Carolina House to continue pushing forward with these efforts and we look forward to the legislature getting an Education Savings Account proposal to Governor McMaster’s desk.”
