Senate Effort Advances Obamacare Repeal, Builds 2017 Momentum

Press Releases · Dec 1, 2015

Washington - Last night, the Senate began consideration of a bill that would ultimately repeal significant portions of Obamacare through the budget reconciliation process. Heritage Action has long supported full repeal of Obamacare and earlier this year outlined a path forward using the reconciliation process. Unlike the much-maligned House-passed reconciliation measure, the Senate's version will repeal Obamacare's Medicaid expansion and exchange subsidies, along with nearly all the law's tax increases. Heritage Action released the following statement from chief executive officer Michael A. Needham:

"Heritage Action supports the Senate's effort to use the budget reconciliation process to repeal Obamacare. Senators Cruz, Lee and Rubio deserve credit for refusing to settle for the House-passed bill, which would have left the main pillars of the law in place. To be clear, there is more work that needs to be done to make full repeal a reality, but the Senate's effort provides momentum to help make that a reality in 2017."
