Senate Democrats Play Politics

Cling to Unconstitutional, Unaffordable, and Unpopular Law

Washington—Early today, the Senate voted along partisan lines against repealing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The law, never popular among Americans, would decrease choice, increase premiums, raise taxes and add to the deficit.

"It is revealing that Senate Democrats continue to cling to an unconstitutional, unaffordable and unpopular law," Heritage Action's CEO Michael A. Needham said. "Americans deserve reform that empowers individuals, not federal bureaucrats.

Americans remain steadfastly opposed to the new health care law, with a strong bipartisan majority supportive of repeal. According to Rasmussen, 58 percent of likely voters favor repeal; including, 65 percent of independents and 31 percent of Democrats.

"Today's vote did not have to be partisan," Needham continued. "There is broad public opposition to the law and many Senate Democrats have themselves expressed serious reservations with the law. Unfortunately, they chose to place partisan politics above the will of the American people."

Heritage Action for America will continue the legislative fight to fully repeal the law and take every step necessary to ensure the Obama administration cannot implement the law.

With more than 710,000 members across the country, The Heritage Foundation and its affiliate, Heritage Action for America, are committed to building an America where freedom, opportunity, prosperity, and a civil society flourish.
