Pennsylvania State Lawmakers Ask for Transportation Empowerment Act

Press Releases · Jul 28, 2014

Washington -- Today, eight members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly sent a letter to Sen. Patrick Toomey (R-PA) and Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) and the chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA) to express their support for the Transportation Empowerment Act (TEA), introduced by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT). Heritage Action released the following statement from chief executive officer Michael A. Needham:

As the Senate prepares to vote on Sen. Lee's amendment, this letter should reassure his colleagues state lawmakers are eager to accept more responsibility. They are acutely aware of the obstacles Washington has created to them meeting the transportation needs of their citizens.

The Transportation Empowerment Act would empower the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and all states to fund and prioritize their own infrastructure projects, ending the cycle of perpetual Highway Trust Fund (HTF) bailouts and cutting Washington inefficiency and red tape out of the process.
