Parental Rights Movement Grows in Virginia Beach, Heritage Action Holds Second Parental Rights Symposium

Press Releases · Aug 18, 2022

WASHINGTON – Today, Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million grassroots activists, including thousands of Virginians, released a statement from Executive Director Jessica Anderson following the organization’s second Parental Rights Symposium.

After our kids were locked out of their classrooms across this country, our eyes were opened to the failures of our public education system. Parents became more engaged than ever in their children’s curriculum, local school boards, and state and federal education policy. Heritage Action’s Parental Rights Symposiums are designed to help parents use all of the tools and resources available to stay involved with their school boards, get transparent information about curriculum, file FOIA requests when necessary, and even run for school board.

From Loudon County to the Blue Ridge Mountains to Virginia Beach, Virginia has been a leader in the parental rights movement. With even more parents now equipped to make a difference in their local school systems, Virginia can make even more progress in replacing politics with parents in the classroom. Heritage Action is committed to working with more Virginia parents and state lawmakers to set our students and families up for success.

BACKGROUND:

  • On Thursday, Heritage Action hosted their second Parental Rights Symposium in Virginia Beach. The training was attended by over 100 parents and activists to learn more about resources and tips to stay involved with their children’s education.

  • The Virginia Beach training follows the first Parental Rights Symposium, which was held in Dana Point, California.

  • Special guests included Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares, professional basketball player Jonathan Isaac, Virginia state lawmakers, Heritage Foundation experts, and more.

  • The Parental Rights Symposiums are part of a broader effort from Heritage Action to promote school choice policies and get parents back into classrooms.

  • Earlier this year, Heritage Action launched SaveOurSchools.com, which is set up as a resource toolkit for parents and activists. Parents who are unable to attend an in-person training session with our experts are encouraged to visit the website for programming and resources.
