Obama's Border Request a Non-Starter

Press Releases · Jul 7, 2014

Washington - This afternoon, the Obama administration submitted a $3.7 billion emergency supplemental spending request to Congress to address the growing number of unaccompanied children and other unlawful immigrants crossing America's southwestern border. Heritage Action released the following statement from chief executive officer Michael A. Needham:

"President Obama's request is a non-starter because it seeks to address the symptoms, not the cause. The President should rescind his anti-enforcement policies and demonstrate a commitment to implementing existing law. Conservatives are eager to change laws that are hampering the administration's ability to deal with the surge, but believe our nation's border security can be addressed through the regular appropriations process where priorities can be re-ordered and spending can occur within the established budget caps."
