New Polling Shows SAVE America Act Commands Broad Support Across Battleground States

Washington, D.C. — New polling from Heritage Action across five battleground states demonstrates that the SAVE America Act is broadly supported by voters.

Across Alaska, Georgia, Maine, North Carolina, and Ohio, more than 70 percent of likely voters oppose non-citizen voting. More than 80 percent agree that every legal voter should have confidence their ballot is counted equally and not diluted, and nearly 80 percent support applying the same eligibility standard in every state for federal elections.

The data shows the electorate is not divided on this issue.

“American voters are smart, and they know that showing an ID to vote is a simple way to protect their ballots,” said Tiffany Justice, Heritage Action Executive Vice President. “Voting is a privilege of American citizenship, and it should be defended by commonsense measures that apply equally to all states. Allowing non-citizens to cancel out the votes of law-abiding Americans threatens the very foundation of our republic.”

According to the survey, voters are roughly twice as likely to reward a senator for supporting the SAVE America Act as to punish them for doing so.

“The SAVE America Act is not politically controversial, quite the opposite,” said Stefani Buhajla, Heritage Action Sr. Director of Communications, who directed the poll.

“If Democrats intend to block the SAVE America Act, the American people should see it. Not through a quiet cloture vote. Not through process maneuvering. Through a full, visible, talking filibuster. Make opponents stand on the floor and explain why proof of citizenship for federal voting is unreasonable when 70 to 80 percent of voters say otherwise,” she added.

The Heritage Action poll shows that voters know this is a fairness-based issue and ineligible ballots should not dilute the votes of American citizens. To accomplish that, every state must be held to the same voter verification standards. That is exactly what the SAVE America Act does.
