Washington D.C.—New polling commissioned by Heritage Action shows overwhelming support among Texas voters for strengthening citizenship verification and election transparency, with majorities across parties backing key election integrity reforms.
The statewide survey, drafted by Heritage Action Senior Communications Director Stefani Buhajla, found 82% of likely Texas voters support requiring individuals to provide proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote, including 94% of Republicans, 83% of independents, and 66% of Democrats.
The poll also found strong support for reforms designed to make citizenship verification accurate, transparent, and fair to eligible voters.
Buhajla released the following statement:
“Texans across the political spectrum agree American elections should be decided by American citizens, and our show everyone agrees proving citizenship is the best way to do it. Election integrity and voter access do not have to be competing goals. Texas can make it easy to vote, and hard to cheat.”

Methodology
The survey was conducted October 10–15, 2026, among 1,409 likely Texas voters through live calls, online panels, and automated telephone interviews. The margin of sampling error is ±2.61 percentage points.
The results were weighted using demographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey Voting and Registration Supplement and state election authorities. The survey was directed by Stefani Buhajla in partnership with Cor Strategies, LLC. Heritage Action paid all costs associated with the survey.
