Washington—The board of directors of Heritage Action for America has selected vice president Jessica Anderson to lead the organization as executive director, effective April 1, 2020. Departing executive director Tim Chapman will continue to serve in his role until that time.
“I’ve been privileged to work alongside Jessica for nearly ten years, and I am fully confident there is no better person to lead Heritage Action into its second decade,” said Chapman. “I’m grateful for the board’s decision to name her as my successor, ensuring a seamless transition and a bright future for an organization and team of people I care deeply about.”
Since its creation in 2010, Heritage Action has helped turn The Heritage Foundation’s conservative ideas into reality on Capitol Hill. Heritage Action helps hold lawmakers accountable to their promises of advancing The Heritage Foundation’s conservative principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.
“As the current No. 2 at Heritage Action for America, Jessica knows the inner workings of Heritage Action, and she’s an experienced manager and superb leader who already has the respect and support of her staff,” said Heritage Foundation President Kay C. James. “I look forward to working closely with her and seeing her vision for growing Heritage Action’s grassroots influence in America.”
Anderson first joined Heritage Action in December 2010, working as a grassroots director before leading Heritage Action’s grassroots wing. She then continued her work fighting for conservative principles at the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in the first year and a half of President Trump’s term. Since departing the White House, she has managed Heritage Action’s day-to-day operations, helping the organization grow its grassroots influence and successfully advocate for conservative policy solutions on Capitol Hill.
“Heritage Action is the nation’s leader in policy driven grassroots organizing, and I’m beyond honored by the board’s decision,” said Anderson. “Heritage Action will continue to advocate for the policy ideas of The Heritage Foundation as we equip Americans with the training and resources necessary to hold their elected officials accountable to conservative principles. I look forward to seeing our organization flourish for years to come.”
Over the past decade, Heritage Action has developed a unique strategy that combines inside-the-Beltway lobbying with outside-the-Beltway grassroots pressure. Both Anderson and Chapman helped to create a Capitol Hill lobbying team and legislative scorecard to implement conservative solutions. Meanwhile, Heritage Action’s grassroots coordinators have developed an elite group of 20,000 Sentinel activists who serve on the front line of the conservative fight in their communities.
“Jessica Anderson is one of the most experienced grassroots organizers in America, and Heritage Action was fortunate to secure her return to the organization as vice president in 2018,” said Nersi Nazari, chairman of Heritage Action’s board. “For the past two years, Jessica has successfully led the group’s daily operations and strategic initiatives. Her new role as executive director is a natural continuation of that leadership. We are confident that Anderson will continue and grow the organization’s influence and success.”
