As the House prepares the 9th extension of highway and transit policy, Heritage Action released the following statement from CEO Michael A. Needham:
Rather than continuing a process of uncertainty that has become emblematic of everything Congress touches, lawmakers must begin the process of turning authority back to the states. Heritage Action remains opposed to any transportation measure that exceeds incoming revenues to the federal Highway Trust Fund. That said, if an extension does become law, Congress should use the brief reprieve to do transportation policy right.
Heritage Action reserves the right to score against any transportation measure that exceeds revenues coming into the federal Highway Trust Fund (HTF). Last July, House Republicans put forth a proposal that would have kept transportation funding in line with revenues coming into the HTF. This month, nearly two-thirds of the Senate Republican Conference voted to turn back transportation authority to the states.
