Washington - This week, the House could vote on a bill, negotiated by Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), that would repeal Medicare's Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR), make some small-scale reforms to the entitlement program and extend CHIP at Obamacare funding levels. According to an analysis by the nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB), the plan would likely increase America's debt by $400 billion over the next 20 years. Heritage Action released the following statement from chief executive officer Michael A. Needham:
"Increasing spending in the near-term for promises of woefully inadequate long-term reductions isn't entitlement reform, it's a continuation of Washington's broken status quo. Americans gave Republicans a historic majority because they want Congress to reduce the debt and prioritize spending, not embrace the deficit creating policies of Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi. Barring a score that shows the bill is fully paid for, Heritage Action will key vote against the plan."
