WASHINGTON – Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million grassroots activists, released a statement from Acting Executive Director Ryan Walker following its victories in legal actions relating to efforts by Campaign Legal Center (CLC) to wrongly force disclosure of the names and addresses of Heritage Action’s confidential grassroots supporters:
“This legal victory presents a milestone in the ongoing fight against a weaponized federal government. Over the past several years, misuse of the federal government as a weapon against American citizens – especially conservatives – has become increasingly prevalent. Between the politicization of intelligence agencies, the weaponization of the IRS under the Biden administration, and the clear targeting of conservative Americans, influential government institutions have slowly turned into seemingly Left-wing political operations. Heritage Action has now exposed this same dangerous game playing out at our nation’s top election regulator, the supposedly nonpartisan Federal Election Commission (FEC).
These lawsuits have laid bare a lawless scheme carried out by Democrat members of the FEC over the last several years. Those commissioners refused to allow their agency to disclose already dismissed matters, misled federal judges, and allowed Left-wing allies like CLC to wrongly stand in the FEC’s shoes and attack political opponents in court. CLC took full advantage of this scheme, suing Heritage Action, trying to effectively dox its conservative donors and chill any future grassroots support.
Heritage Action, however, went on offense – using the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to expose the FEC’s wrongful scheme and allow justice to finally be served. Heritage Action’s FOIA requests uncovered for the first time the extent of the Democrat commissioners’ unprecedented abuse of the law and procedures they were appointed to faithfully execute. Their now-failed scheme was intended not only to attack Heritage Action – but also to target and silence the voices of conservative Americans wishing to be heard on the issues.
Heritage Action’s victories in court today are indeed a win for every American, but our work is just getting started. Whether it is in the courtroom, Congress, or state legislatures, Heritage Action will continue fighting to bring integrity back to our government institutions and protect Americans’ right to free speech.”
