WASHINGTON - Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with over 2.5 million grassroots activists nationwide, commends the Tennessee General Assembly and Tennessee Governor Bill Lee for enacting HB 888, legislation that safeguards Tennessee elections from foreign influence.

Heritage Action Tennessee State Director James Quarles released the following statement in support of House Bill 888:

“Heritage Action applauds the Tennessee General Assembly and Tennessee Governor Bill Lee for signing HB 888, vital legislation that protects Tennessee's elections from foreign influence.
Foreign nationals should never have a part in American elections. Free and fair elections are a pivotal right of the American People, and the state of Tennessee is taking direct action to ensure that right is protected. With the passage of HB 888, Tennessee joins six other states prohibiting foreign funding of ballot measures. Our army of grassroots conservatives looks forward to continuing our work to protect state elections nationwide.”

Americans for Public Trust reports that foreign interests directly influence elections across the U.S. Recent polling shows that close to 80% of Americans agree that foreign powers should not be directly involved with U.S. elections. In passing HB 888, Tennessee is taking active steps to ensure that our elections are free, fair, and unhampered by foreign powers.

Tennessee currently ranks 1st out of 51 on The Heritage Foundation’s Election Integrity Scorecard.
