Washington, D.C.—Heritage Action today praised the progress of an historic tax season—one that saw working Americans keep significantly more of their hard-earned money. Thanks to the Working Families Tax Cut, championed by President Trump and passed by Republicans in Congress last July, millions of Americans experienced much-needed relief this Income Tax Day.
By extending and expanding the 2017 tax cuts from President Trump’s first term and preventing a massive $4 trillion tax hike, family budgets gained welcome breathing room. From a higher standard deduction and an expanded Child Tax Credit to new deductions for tips, overtime pay, and seniors, the bill delivered on the president’s commitment to putting working Americans first.

March 2026 data from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) showed refunds were up 11 percent compared to last year, reflecting the impact of the Trump administration’s success in lowering taxes, simplifying filing, and giving families more room in their budgets.
