Heritage Action Applauds Passage of Florida Bill to End Taxpayer-Funded DEI

Press Releases · Mar 10, 2026

March 10, 2026, Washington, D.C.—Heritage Action today praised the Florida Legislature for passing SB 1134, legislation prohibiting counties and municipalities from using taxpayer dollars to fund “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” (DEI) offices that offer “bias” training and focus hiring practices on race and sexuality.

For years, DEI bureaucracies have diverted taxpayer dollars away from essential public services and toward ideological programs that divide communities and prioritize identity politics over equal treatment. SB 1134 ensures that local government offices and programs focus on serving all Floridians fairly—directing resources toward improving critical infrastructure such as roads, emergency services, and public safety instead of funding costly administrative offices devoted to social engineering.

Taxpayer dollars should fix roads and keep communities safe—not funnel money into bloated DEI bureaucracies that choose winners and losers based on appearances,” said Tiffany Justice, Executive Vice President of Heritage Action. “Florida is ending a wasteful, divisive experiment and putting government back on the side of equal treatment for every citizen.”

We thank Senator Clay Yarborough and Representative Dean Black for leading this reform to protect Florida communities from wasteful and divisive policies,” said Karen Jaroch, Florida State Director for Heritage Action. “The legislature’s action demonstrates a clear commitment to fairness and ensuring that taxpayer dollars are spent on essential services that benefit every Floridian.”

Florida is rejecting the false premise that the only remedy for past discrimination is present discrimination. With Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signature, this legislation will show the nation why Florida continues to be a leader in dismantling divisive identity politics and putting taxpayers first.
