WASHINGTON—Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million activists nationwide, including thousands of Alabamians, released the following statement from Alabama State Director Karen Jaroch praising the Alabama Legislature and Governor Kay Ivey for passing and enacting HB 129, legislation that expands education freedom for all families in the state through universal access to education savings accounts (ESAs).

“In the face of the Left’s addiction to inserting woke ideology into our schools and replacing academic achievement with social experimentation, Alabama parents deserve the freedom to choose how to best educate their children. As a mother, I know the importance of quality education for kids—and parents’ rights to raise their children according to their values. HB 129 puts quality education within reach of all Alabama’s kids by expanding access to ESAs and educational options that best fit their needs.

“Heritage Action applauds the Alabama Legislature and Gov. Ivey for their work to give education freedom to every student in the Yellowhammer State.”

Education savings accounts (ESAs) enable parents to use their child’s portion of state education spending to meet the child’s unique learning needs by choosing a new school, purchasing textbooks or other learning materials, hiring personal tutors, and more.

Alabama joins states across the country in taking important steps to expand education freedom for Americans. Prior to the House’s passage of HB 129, the Heritage Foundation ranked Alabama 13th out of 51 in its Education Freedom Report Card.
