WASHINGTON – Today, Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with over two million grassroots activists, released a statement from Executive Director Jessica Anderson announcing Dan Mauler’s appointment as General Counsel.
“Heritage Action is excited to announce Dan Mauler’s appointment as General Counsel. From his experience practicing law in the private sector and his service in the Trump administration, Dan brings the robust skills, knowledge, and sound judgment needed to help Heritage Action achieve its core mission as we grow and develop new capabilities.
We look forward to relying on his extensive experience, particularly in constitutional litigation and with judicial nominations, as we advance the conservative movement at the federal, state, and local levels. He will be an invaluable asset to both Heritage Action and the Heritage Foundation as we achieve policy victories and continue our fight for a better future.”

Before joining Heritage Action, Dan practiced defamation and constitutional litigation with Clare Locke LLP, the preeminent plaintiff-side defamation law firm.
Prior to practicing with Clare Locke, Dan served in the U.S. Department of Justice as a Trial Attorney. There, he handled numerous high-profile and sensitive cases across the nation involving constitutional claims, challenges to federal regulations, and national security issues. As a line attorney, Dan was responsible for his own cases and appeared “first-chair” in multiple district courts representing the United States Government.
In addition to his litigation duties, Dan was also selected for a detail assignment to the Office of Legal Policy. He served as a Nominations Counsel and worked on the identification, vetting, and confirmation of judges to the federal bench, including the confirmation of a justice to the Supreme Court of the United States.
Before entering public service, Dan built a successful commercial litigation practice, first with Hunton & Williams LLP (now Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP) and then with Redmon, Peyton & Braswell, LLP. From early on, Dan’s practice led to the courtroom, where he earned wins before both juries and appellate benches in cases involving trade secrets, fraudulent conveyances, and breaches of contract.
Dan graduated from the Georgetown University Law Center with honors. At Georgetown Law, he served as an Articles Editor of The Georgetown Law Journal and as the Grand Jury section editor of The Annual Review of Criminal Procedure (2005). A native Midwesterner, Dan earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska, where he majored in Business Management with a focus on information systems, and where he founded a student-led mock trial program.
