Harry Reid Going Nuclear

Press Releases · Nov 20, 2013

Washington - Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) is poised to invoke the "nuclear option" as early as today. The controversial move of changing the Senate's rules with a majority vote instead of the prescribed 67-vote threshold would allow Reid to strip the minority's ability to filibuster executive branch nominees and most judicial nominees. Heritage Action released the following statement from chief executive officer Michael A. Needham:

"For Harry Reid and President Obama, this is not about a couple circuit court judges; this is an attempt to remake America to reflect their unworkable and unpopular progressive vision. If Reid and his colleagues continue down this path, they will set a precedent that fundamentally alters the role of the minority in American politics."

Heritage Action will key vote against any attempt to invoke the nuclear option.
