Arizona Enacts Nation’s Top School Choice Law

Press Releases · Jul 7, 2022

WASHINGTON — Today, Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million grassroots activists, including thousands of Arizonans, released a statement from Executive Director Jessica Anderson applauding Governor Doug Ducey for signing HB 2853 into law on Thursday, which creates the most expansive school choice program in the country.

Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program is now the leading school choice program in the nation. This historic law will allow every family in the state to join the ESA program and receive over $6,500 per year for each of their children to use at the education institution of their choice.

For too long, American children have been forced into a one-size-fits-all education regime. Now, Arizona is returning power to parents to make the educational choices they know are right for their kids.

House Majority Leader Rep. Ben Toma, who led the charge to get this bill across the finish line, is a hero to parents and students across the Grand Canyon State. Arizonans applaud Leader Toma and thank Gov. Ducey for signing this historic bill into law. Every governor should follow Arizona’s lead next session.
