Heritage Action supports Senator Tuberville’s amendment to S.1383 to keep men out of women’s sports. The vote on this amendment to S.1383 will be included as a key vote on our legislative scorecard.
Heritage Action has long supported the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, also led by Senator Tuberville. It is the most basic biological truth that men and women are different, and as a result, men and women ought to have access to their own spaces. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the realm of athletics.
When men are allowed to compete in women’s sports, female athletes are put in danger both on and off the field. Our daughters and our sons deserve safe and private facilities when using the locker room, restroom, or during overnight accommodation on team trips.
This amendment would defend the aspirations and safety of female athletes by making it a Title IX violation for anyone who receives federal funds and operates, sponsors, or facilitates athletic programs to allow males to compete in athletic programs that are designated for women or girls.
Women’s sports are about more than trophies. Anyone who has played competitive sports at any level knows that these women and girls will not just be missing out on the ability to play a game that they love, but also on the ability to learn skills like leadership, perseverance, and teamwork.
