Heritage Action opposes Senator Durbin’s amendment #5806 to S.2 that would give de facto amnesty to all DACA recipients and prevent the Trump Administration from carrying out mass deportations of illegal immigrants. Heritage Action has long opposed all efforts to grant amnesty to illegal aliens.
Senator Durbin’s amendment would grant de facto amnesty to all DACA recipients, even those with criminal records. DACA does not guarantee permanent residency, and it should not be a shield from deportation for those who commit crimes.
In addition, this amendment would reduce funding for ICE at a time when the agency has been unfunded for months due to Senate Democrats' obstruction.
This is another attempt from Senate Democrats to grant de facto amnesty to illegal aliens in the hope that a later Congress will give them citizenship. Republicans were elected to enforce our immigration laws, not to give amnesty to illegal aliens.
