My name is [NAME] from [CITY AND ZIP CODE] and I am calling to urge President Trump and Secretary Azar to oppose foreign price controls on U.S. prescription drugs.
I want affordable health care, but the solution to reducing costs is not to use an international pricing index that would give foreign countries control over our drug prices.
An international pricing index would tie American drug prices to european-socialist countries, where government meddling in the market reduces competition and innovation—this means fewer new, life-saving drugs and delays in introducing them to the healthcare marketplace.
The facts speak for themselves. Of new pharmaceuticals introduced between 2011 and 2018, 89% are available to Americans, compared with 62% in Germany and 60% in the United Kingdom. Less than 50% are available to Australian, Canadian, French, and Japanese patients.
We should not follow the disastrous policies of these countries and tie our drug prices to theirs.
Please tell President Trump and Secretary Azar to lower drug costs while opposing any policy that ties our drug prices to an international pricing index.
Foreign price controls only serve to reduce access to new treatments, stifle research and innovation, and increase health costs in the long run.
