Steve Chartan first joined The Heritage Foundation as Vice President for Government Relations, and he has worked closely with policymakers in the administration and on Capitol Hill to advance conservative priorities.
A longtime Capitol Hill strategist, he previously served as Chief of Staff to Senator Ted Cruz, where he advised on policy and legislative priorities and managed the senator’s official office. Earlier in his career, he was the founding executive director of the House Freedom Caucus, working with members to develop and advance a conservative legislative agenda. He also held roles with the Senate Steering Committee under Senators Mike Lee and Pat Toomey.
Following his congressional service, Chartan worked in the private sector as a principal at a government relations and public affairs firm.
He is a graduate of Duke University.
