Email Your Senators to Oppose the Veterans Omnibus Bill (S. 1982)

On Tuesday, the Senate is expected to vote to open debate on the Comprehensive Veterans Health and Benefits and Military Retirement Pay Restoration Act of 2014 (S. 1982). While seemingly well-intentioned, the bill will only increase the issues the Veterans Affairs (VA) system already faces.

The $24 billion package would create at least 15 new government programs and would extend VA services to all veterans, even if their injuries are not related to their service.  This increased eligibility would prevent those truly in need from obtaining the assistance they need through the VA.

The VA system already suffers a backlog of thousands of unattended claims.  Adding new claims and programs to the already overburdened system would only make the program more inefficient and prevent real reform from occurring.

  1. Sorry, I am a CONSERVATIVE and a VETERAN, and I totally SUPPORT this bill! You guys want to keep us veterans that “weren’t injured” while serving to be unable to get many needed benefits! I cannot “prove” my injury while in the Marines, but I have been dealing with this for several years! Also in S1982, is the VRAP extention act! You need to fully understand what ALL is in this bill! SUPPORT US VETS and approve it!

  2. How can ANYONE be against a comprehensive bill to help our veterans?? America CAN’T help the 150,000 veterans that are homeless?? If we can’t help our veterans, who can we help??
You support a trillion dollar Farm Bill and won’t support a 24 billion dollar(over ten years) Veterans Bill??

  3. It is sad that this bill was not passed. The govt spend billions yearly on waste and yet, when it comes to our veterans, they screw us. This bill should have passed. The backlog is not us, we the veterans, problem.

I usually support the Heritage Foundation and still do but this bill was needed.

  4. I wonder how many here who support the bill, have actually read it. The first thirty or so pages list out extensive numbers of “pilot” programs. I scoured it for obvious measures which would alleviate the backlog of patient visits and concrete care. I found nothing I could put confidence in, which would strongly solve the problems we hear about. Just because an Act exists and it’s named “Comprehensive Veterans Health and Benefits and Military Retirement Pay Restoration Act of 2014”
that does not mean it will produce positive effects.

In fact, I am beginning to become more convinced that the Democrats realized this could never pass, and that they had many, many plans to expand government in the VA, so they created an omnibus bill which could be titled this way, as a technique to allow them to tarnish the GOP as the crucial elections of 2014 get closer and closer. Again, I’m saying the Democrats never intended, or believed this could pass, but played with the GOP, and frankly everyone in the USA, who hears about this, especially including the veterans, by a) pretending this would fix things and b) pretending this is anything but a ploy to tarnish their enemies.

  5. This is the Bill that would of helped Veterans like the 40 who died in Arizona. The members of congress that killed this bill should be investigated. We The People have given Congress an approval rating of 15% for this reason!!! Congress is a disgrace!!!

  6. extend VA services to all veterans, even if their injuries are not related to their service.

They served our country and they should be covered fully no matter if the injuries from the war or not. The people that shouldn’t be cover are the morons in the House and Senate.

  7. I’d just like to say Thank you to all the Veterans for my freedom. I do not care what the cost is, the promised made to you when you enlisted was healthcare via the VA. That was the deal. You offer up your life to protect our freedoms and we watch over your health for life. It is disgraceful that the Republicans have constantly rejected you. I am the granddaughter, daughter, bonus Mother, sister, niece, and cousin to Veterans. I know the hardships you face. I will not vote Republican again until they are willing to spend as much on your care as they are willing to spend on sending you to war. God Bless all of you.
