Strawman

Dave Winston Polling a Straw Man

According to the Washington Examiner’s Byron York, prominent Republican pollster Dave Winston is out with “a new poll done for Republican members of Congress.”  Unfortunately, Winston polled a strategy that simply does not exist.

Nearly three weeks ago, Winston asked 1,000 registered voters if they favored or opposed the following: “Some members of Congress have proposed shutting down the government as a way to defund the president’s health care law.”

No members of Congress are advocating such a strategy.  It is common knowledge that shutting down the government would not defund Obamacare, which is why those pushing to defund Obamacare are also pushing to fund the government.  In short, Winston has conducted a poll based on a straw man argument that Republican leaders will now use to fight conservatives, thereby preserving Obamacare.

What does Heritage Action mean by defunding Obamacare?

Defunding Obamacare means attaching a legislative rider to a “must pass” bill (debt limit, annual spending bill, etc.) that 1) prohibits any funds from being spent on any activities to implement or enforce Obamacare; 2) rescinds any unspent balances that have already been appropriated for implementation; and 3) turns off the exchange subsidy and new Medicaid spending that are on auto-pilot.

Perhaps Winston and those who commissioned his services simply misunderstood the strategy, which has always been to actively defund Obamacare, not shut down the government.

Perhaps the Heritage foundation would like to pretend that there is any difference between insisting a must-pass bill include a rider defunding Obamacare and a government shutdown, but anyone with an ounce of common sense knows they are one and the same.

No, two things: passing a bill, that is a Congress thing; refusing to sign it and shuting down the government is actually an Obama thing. He can say “the Republicans made me do it,” but he can also bow to the will of the people and sign the bill. Ergo no shutdown, and Obamacare collapses in a tangle of unlawful transfers of funds and regulatory disasters.

Lol .Everyone knows Obama would not sign such a bill . Why are some so delisional? Go ahead. Withold funding and see what happens.

Everyone knows Obama will shut down the government if he refuses to sign the bill. It is on him. There is no other reasonable way to see it. You can deny it is his fault, but if he refuses to accept the will of Congress and the American people, it is all on him, no matter how you try to spin it.

    Proceed, teatards.

Why is it that every time that Democrats and Republicans disagree on the budget and as a result the government shuts down, it is always the Republicans’ fault?

Why is it that the Democrats’ position is always accepted as the default position, and
any problems are due to Republicans not giving the Democrats everything they want?

Why are Republicans always expected to compromise, but never Democrats?

Well Dave, its because public reaction, as molded by the state-run media, seems to see thru a leftist prism. Accepting this slant is so automatic and natural that that even Republicans believe it. The public is not duped by this at all, but belt-way dwellers don’t know that. They don’t respect the American people and assume we are mostly uninformed except for what they spoon-feed us.
