Obamacare: What’s Good for the Goose Isn’t Good For the Gander After All?

Rep. John Larson (D-CT) is whining that Obamacare will force him and his staff to purchase expensive, low-quality health care – just like the rest of Americans.  Apparently he was under the impression that he and his staff would be able to keep their generous, taxpayer-funded health insurance once Obamacare became law.  But a provision added to the legislation puts aides and lawmakers into the same government-run exchanges as many other Americans.

Rep. Larson literally said, “This is simply not fair.”  Does he recall that he voted to pass Obamacare?

He is not alone in his hypocrisy.

Politico reported:

Dozens of lawmakers and aides are so afraid that their health insurance premiums will skyrocket next year thanks to Obamacare that they are thinking about retiring early or just quitting.

I recently spoke with Boaz Steiner, an Israeli immigrant who is now a citizen of the United States.  His insurance company recently informed him and his wife Linda – along with two-million others — that they will be losing their health savings accounts (HSA).  Needless to say, Mr. Steiner is frustrated that his HSA, which he’s had for two years, will no longer be an option on January 1, 2014.

Come October, he will have to navigate an Obamacare exchange and enroll in a new plan.  He doesn’t know how expensive it will be, but his insurance company also told him he will receive a subsidy from the government.

But it’s a subsidy he doesn’t want and didn’t ask for.

When you play with somebody’s health and money, you start to [anger] people.  This is not how the government should treat people.

For 22 years, he has been independent, paid his taxes, and has never taken one dime from the government.  He said “I never got nothing, zero, nada. I don’t want it; I’m not interested.

He recalled President Obama’s promise that if you like your health insurance plan, you’ll get to keep it under Obamacare.  But that’s not so:

I lost it, I’m going to pay more, and I’m going to get subsidy from the government.  Ridiculous…  All this is lie, after lie, after lie.

Responsible 50-somethings with a healthy lifestyle, Boaz and his wife were perfectly content with their health savings account.  But thanks to the coercive hand of big government, Obamacare is changing that.

His choice of doctors is narrowing thanks to Obamacare as well. Two of Boaz’s doctors have practiced medicine for many years.  Though they’re a bit older, they had every intention of continuing their practice.  But Obamacare’s oppressive rules, regulations, and paperwork have removed their incentive, and they are planning to retire rather than to continue to do what they love.

  1. We lost 4 of our doctors. Just sent us letters and telling they were retiring.
They were not even 65 y.o. yet!
