Email Your Senators to Oppose the Deceptively-Named “Violence Against Women Act”

Last week, we released an updated Key Vote alert, letting Congress know we continue to oppose the deceptively-named “Violence Against Women Act.” The bill has numerous specific flaws, but its basic premise is flawed: that federal agencies are better at prosecuting individual crimes than state authorities. Creating a duplicate scheme for crime enforcement is problematic, and changing how crimes are defined is problematic.  VAWA does both, at taxpayers’ expense.

Katherine has a great post outlining more about the serious failures of VAWA.

Email your Senators to oppose VAWA now.

After you send the email, spread the word to your conservative friends: the deceptively-named “Violence Against Women Act” must be stopped.

Update 2/11, 4 p.m.: a few hours after alerting conservatives to this important issue, a bill that was previously 50/50 on POPVOX is now decisively opposed:

  1. Like Nobamacare, must to general like the Commerce and General welfare clauses. The evil is in the regulaltions, the small print. Never trust a demo politicians. Look at the state of the union under the lying, incompetent NOno’ He has been lying for 5 years to us and probably to everyone all his life.

  2. Please stop the nonsense regarding VAWA. You surely have more important issues to work on than this false and deceptive act. Please stop.

  3. Don’t get taken by this deceptibility thing for violence against women. Bill writers can put more wordy garbage into a bill to distort and confuse. Don’t be tricked.
