With presidential politics dominating the news cycle, it is easy to equate the election as America’s only opportunity to choose a guiding vision. But conservatives need to know that every fight in Congress is a chance to disarm President Obama’s vision of an ever-expanding government.
When certain provisions expires, Congress considers their replacements “must-pass” legislation. These bills often are saddled with extra provisions, designed to appease special interests and expand the scope and cost of government. Their consideration is often rushed, meaning that government expands without the chance for real accountability. Conservatives must view these fights as essential: they are our first opportunities to push back against big government this year.
Unless we work to hold Congress accountable during a busy election year, these bad bills will be quieter and worse than normal. Our mission is to hold Congress accountable. And we need committed conservatives to join us.
