Competition and Choice Still Absent in Obamacare Exchanges

As lawmakers continue to delay repealing Obamacare, The Heritage Foundation released new research highlighting the abject failure of the law’s insurance exchanges.

When selling the law, the Obama Administration said over 30 times, “If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan.” After four years of implementation that’s not the reality. Heritage experts note that in 70 percent of U.S. counties, individuals have no insurer or a choice between two. Insurer participation is at an all-time low with no indication of a change in course.

The widespread control of monopolies and duopolies does nothing to lower costs and provide quality health insurance given the severe lack of competition. The new research continues to underscore the importance of a full repeal, including the insurance regulations, that guts every driver of obscene healthcare costs and lack of choice.
