The Best of the Forge
It’s May of 2013, and time is not standing still. Obamacare is already a disaster. There are limited but very important opportunities to prevent Obamacare from being implemented in 2014. Full repeal is of course the goal, but there are other options for pulling the rug out from under this dreadful law.
Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ) is seizing these opportunities to stop Obamacare from causing irreparable damage to our health care system. He has offered two pieces of legislation that will help defeat Obamacare. The first is The Medicaid Expansion Repeal and State Flexibility Act, and the second, introduced yesterday, is the Federal Repeal of Expensive Exchanges Act.
Mark up week for the $1 trillion food stamp and farm bill has finally arrived and with it the ominous prospect of self-styled conservatives and Republicans rubberstamping President Obama’s big-government agenda. Both the House and Senate Agriculture Committees released the draft text of their respective bills last week and the contempt for the American taxpayer could not be more evident.
The bills look remarkably similar to last year’s legislation: chock full of special interest handouts, market-distorting subsidies, taxpayer-funded shallow loss crop insurance, and of course hundreds of billions of dollars in food stamps. Whether it’s the consumer-crushing sugar program or a dairy program with a Soviet-style flare, the farm bill is an American taxpayer’s worst nightmare.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) apparently set out to harm conservatives, and after continual outcry from the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) and others, they finally admitted that this was their intention, and apologized. Of course, the damage had already been done. Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel for the ACLJ, is representing Kevin Kookogey, whose organization was among those targeted. Sekulow says: Apology not accepted.
In his capacity as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at Eric Holder’s US Department of Justice, Perez authored the document, “Protecting the Rights of Women and Girls.” It has a lot nice-sounding assertions:
Human trafficking — the equivalent of modern day slavery — is an affront to human dignity, and goes against everything our country stands for.
But the document made no mention of Planned Parenthood and the occasions on which Planned Parenthood helped to conceal sex trafficking and aid sex traffickers.
Planned Parenthood has arranged for abortions for sex traffickers who bring in their trafficked underage girls for abortions. There are also videos of Planned Parenthood workers telling “sex traffickers to have their trafficked underage girls lie about their age to avoid mandatory reporting laws.”
The farm and food stamp bill.
The trillion-dollar farm and food stamp bill helps lawmakers from agricultural districts, big-government liberals, and large corporate farms at the expense of consumers and taxpayers. The cherry on top, though, is that it includes subsidies for green energy – because President Obama’s meddling in the energy industry has gone just swimmingly in the past!
