Congressional Profile: Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC)

Congressman Jeff Duncan (R-SC) is currently in a four-way tie for highest score on our Legislative Scorecard in the House of Representatives. He currently has a 97% rating on our scorecard and is part of the conservative wave that swept more 87 new Republicans into Congress last year - and he is one of the true conservatives of the freshman class.

Rep. Duncan was born in South Carolina in 1966 and graduated from Ware Shoals High School. His father has worked in the textile industry his entire working life. Rep. Duncan graduated from Clemson University in 1988 where he was a walk on football player during Coach Danny Ford's tenure.

In 2002, Rep. Duncan was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives, where he was named a "Tax Payer Hero" for his work. The National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) granted him the "Guardian of Small Business" award and the Club for Growth gave him an A+ rating. He also received the Palmetto Leadership Award from the South Carolina Policy Council, and was named "Legislator of the Year" by both the South Carolina Recreation and Parks Association as well as the South Carolina Wildlife Federation.

In 2007, Rep. Duncan was named Chairman of the House Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs Committee. He has continued his commitment to energy as the established leader on this front of the 112th Congress' freshman class. He supports using American resources to create jobs in our country, including the use of nuclear technology, oil and natural gas, and deep sea energy wells.

Prior to his election to Congress, Rep. Duncan served as the President and CEO of J. Duncan Associates, a family-owned real estate marketing firm based in South Carolina which specialized in statewide real estate auctions. Rep. Duncan is an accomplished auctioneer, even raising over $1 million for national conservation organizations.

He loves the outdoors and can often be found fishing, hunting and participating in sports. He is also a member of the Congressional Sportsman's Caucus and used to conduct auctions for them before he was a Congressman.

Rep. Duncan takes his work as a Congressman very seriously, and is a staunch defender of the Constitution, even carrying a pocket version with him everywhere he goes.

He currently sits on the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Homeland Security and Natural Resources. He is also a member of the Republican Study Committee and Tea Party Caucus.

Rep. Duncan has been married to his high school sweetheart, Melody, for 21 years. The have three boys: Graham, John Philip, and Parker.
