Stop the ad hominem attacks, Governor Schwarzenegger
In case you missed it (and most people probably did), outgoing California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger had some interesting remarks at the annual meeting of the U.S.-Russia Business Council. During Q&A, the Governor was asked about his fellow Republicans opposing the New START Treaty. The Governor responded:
Because there are those in America that are trying to flex their muscles and pretend they’re ballsy by saying, “we’ve got to keep those nuclear weapons.” That’s very rugged, when you say that. It’s not rugged at all; it’s an idiot that says that. It’s stupid to say that.
Idiot? Stupid? “Take it easy, we’re the good guys.”
You need to stop the ad hominem attacks, governor.
As we’ve said before, our opposition to the treaty is substantive and principled, not political. If the Governor really wants to end the “paralysis in Washington,” he could lead by example and focus on the substance (missile defense, negotiating records, verification, etc.).
Governor, if you’re willing to have a real debate, Heritage Action is ready.
