Local: Challengers in Connecticut Embrace Repeal
In a debate Thursday morning broadcast live on WXLM-FM, the three Republicans competing in the Aug. 10 primary for the 2nd District seat in Congress presented themselves as candidates who would challenge President Barack Obama and Democratic lawmakers on issues from health care to the federal deficit.
During the hour-long debate moderated by host Lee Elci, Daria Novak, a tea party favorite who won the Republican Party’s endorsement, Janet Peckinpaugh, a former television reporter, and Doug Dubitsky, a lawyer, pledged to reverse recent legislation, much of which they described as “unconstitutional” and overreaching.
“I’m just tired of what’s going on in Washington, and I think we need real leadership and citizen change,” Dubitsky said. “I don’t think we should have to turn our lives over to the government.”
