The new year is usually reason for optimism, but that sentiment is going to be curbed by a new Obamacare tax starting January 1. Starting in 2014, Obamacare imposes a new tax on health insurance premiums by an additional 2 to 3 percent.
But don’t worry! Some will be spared (sub. req’d):
IRS regulations published in November excluded “any entity that is a self-insured employer to the extent that such employer self-insures its employees’ health risks.” Since about four of five employers with more than 500 workers and most union-negotiated health plans are self-insured, they are spared from the tax. So is insurance on behalf of “government entities,” such as original Medicare (but not privately run Medicare Advantage).
On Sunday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 94% told ABC’s Jonathon Karl why he doesn’t regret the defund Obamacare effort and why it was President Obama and Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) 13% that shut down the government, not Republicans who tried to give the American people from the train wreck that is Obamacare. That’s what the defund Obamacare effort was all about. No conservative ever advocated for a government shutdown. Instead, conservatives were calling to fully fund the government but defund Obamacare. The Democrats refused to negotiate.
If we were to compile a list of all the news articles discussing what an Obamacare debacle has been, it would be very, very long… and very depressing. As conservatives, we can at least look back to the months leading up to the Obamacare and HealthCare.gov rollout, and say we tried to stop it before it was too late. Now, undoing Obamacare’s damage will be much more challenging, but we won’t stop until Obamacare has been repealed and replaced with market-based healthcare.
GK Chesterton once said, when asked to describe what it was about the world that made him believe in a divine creator, that he regrettably found himself dumbstruck, ill-prepared, at a loss for words. When he surveyed his surroundings, he explained, it was not that one thing pointed toward a celestial hand; it was that everything did.
Politicians and pundits of verifiable eloquence have similarly found themselves humbled before the mountain of evidence towering in tribute to President Obama’s calamitous Affordable Care Act. The heap has grown at such a rate that it is getting difficult to stand back far enough to see it all at once. How can anyone squeeze the multitude of weekly revelations into a digestible sound bite?
None of us likes to be disappointed on Christmas. If your family members promised you a nice gift for Christmas, we hope they keep their promise! If they do, they’ll be acting in stark contrast to the folks in government, who made repeated false promises about what Obamacare would give us.
Watch our Obamacare parody video to see what you don’t want for Christmas — and what Obamacare has already given us.
As you finalize and check off everyone’s Christmas wish list, I bet there is one thing you will not find: Obamacare.
The President’s healthcare overhaul signed into law in 2010 has been looming over the American people for almost 4 years now. Since the botched up HealthCare.gov website opened for enrollment on October 1st, it has been crystal clear that the law is a disaster.
Although it would take much longer than 12 days to go through all of the problems of Obamacare, we focused on 12 of the reasons that no one wants Obamacare for Christmas. Please watch the video and share it to spread the word that Obamacare is not working.
