Heritage Action on Year-end Omnibus Spending Package
Washington — Last month’s Bipartisan Budget Act, which was opposed by 167 House Republicans and 35 Senate Republicans, suspended the nation’s debt ceiling and increased the statutory budget caps by $80 billion over the next two years. Congress will attempt to craft a year-end omnibus spending package at those elevated spending levels by December 11. Heritage Action released the following statement from chief executive officer Michael A. Needham:
“In the course of cleaning out the barn, John Boehner undermined a host of conservative legislative priorities. Conservatives should use the year-end appropriations process to reassert their prerogatives on appropriate spending levels and necessary policy riders such as defunding Planned Parenthood and preventing the implementation of President Obama’s unlawful amnesty.
“Conservatives are not looking for status quo policy outcomes achieved by different means. Lawmakers should use their Article I powers to fight for and achieve policy victories on the issues Americans care about.”
