President Obama and Congressional liberals want another blank check; they simply want to raise our debt ceiling without making the sort of serious reforms that are necessary. That’s like taking out another credit card to help your family deal with a dozen maxed out cards. It’s simply irresponsible.

Heritage Action urges a responsible approach. Congress must focus on entitlement spending, discretionary spending and the way Washington spends money. Those issues must be addressed either prior to, or in conjunction with, any increase in the debt ceiling.

While we debate those issues, we’re also pushing for the Full Faith and Credit Act, which would force the Treasury Secretary to pay the interest on our national debt and thus avoid a default if and when we reach the debt ceiling. America doesn’t need more hysteria and rhetoric, we need real leadership.
