House Cloakroom: July 22 – July 26

Analysis: This week the House will move its attention to energy bills in an attempt to free the energy sector and Americans from onerous regulations.  The bills on the floor will limit the ability of the EPA to create new regulations that cause significant economic damage as well as institute a more common sense regulatory scheme for coal ash.

Major Floor Action:

  • HR 1582 – Energy Consumers Relief Act of 2013
  • HR 2218 – Coal Residuals Reuse and Management Act of 2013

Major Committee Action:

  • The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health will hold a markup of a bill reforming the Medicare physician payment rate.
  • The House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Highways and Transit will hold a hearing on the “Highway Trust Fund and Surface Transportation.”
  • The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Power will hold a hearing on the renewable fuel standard.

 

Senate Cloakroom: July 22 – July 26

Analysis:  This week the Senate will consider a bill to fund the Departments of Transportation and Housing and Urban Development.  The bill is written to fund the departments at levels above the caps set by the Budget Control Act, the level at which the House is appropriating money.

  • S 1243 – Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations
