Empower Grassroots, not Washington (CNBC)
This weekend in the New York Times, Karl Rove and his allies at American Crossroads announced the creation of, “a new group to recruit seasoned candidates and protect Senate incumbents from challenges by far-right conservatives and Tea Party enthusiasts.” This newly formed “Conservative Victory Project” is “intended to counter other organizations that have helped defeat establishment Republican candidates over the last two election cycles.”
Last night, on CNBC’s Kudlow Report, Heritage Action CEO Michael Needham argued a small group of people in DC should not choose candidates – grassroots conservatives should. Electoral success does not require people from Washington parachuting in and choosing “moderate” candidates under the guise of electability. We do not believe that the key to winning elections is choosing “establishment” candidates. Rather it requires uniting around the most principled, conservative candidates because “good policy is good politics.”
If we truly want conservative victories, we should unite the American people around real conservatives with real solutions to the challenges facing our nation.
