Welcome to August, Now Silence Your Conscience

It’s August 1st, which means that the Health and Human Services’ (HHS) anti-conscience mandate has gone into effect.

What does that mean? Well, in the simplest terms it means that your health insurance premiums are going to go up – again – in order to cover the cost of providing so-called “free” contraception, abortion-inducing drugs and sterilization. And it doesn’t matter whether you have moral objects, religious objections… you will be paying higher premiums so that President Obama can provide another handout to a another key constituency.

Even before Obamacare, it was possible to get prescription contraception for $9 a month at stores like Wal-Mart or Target. This is, oddly enough, how much college students will be saving each month (four years from now when those who qualify graduate) on their student loans. So a month ago, Americans spent $6 billion so that a small percentage of college students could save 9 bucks a month four years from now, and now everyone who has employer-sponsored health insurance (for now…) must pay higher premiums so that a percentage of the workforce can save 9 bucks a month.

Best case scenario for someone that falls into both categories, we just gave up our religious freedom, $6 billion, and signed on to higher health insurance premiums so that at most someone could save $18 a month. Yay liberalism!

Contraception and abortions are not rights enshrined in our constitution. President Obama’s HHS says they’re part of “preventative care.” Does pregnancy need to be prevented? Is it a disease that we all seek to obliterate…like cancer?

In a press release, HHS made the following outlandish statement:

“The Obama administration will continue to work with all employers to give them the flexibility and resources they need to implement the health care law in a way that protects women’s health while making common-sense accommodations for values like religious liberty.”

“Common-sense?” A “common-sense” accommodation for religious liberty would be to allow employers with moral or religious objections the ability to not follow the mandate. Even more common-sense would be to not have the mandate at all.

Oh, and if these employers don’t provide these drugs for free, they’ll face a death penalty fine of $100 per employee per day! It’s essentially a death sentence…violate your conscience or fail as a business!

Do they not realize how absurd this is? Don’t answer, we clearly know what they think.

There are now 20 lawsuits against this mandate, with nearly 60 organizations lining up to challenge this Administration’s clear violation of the First Amendment.

So welcome to August, now pay up.
