Analysis:  This week the House returns from its recess and shifts its focus to energy.  The major bill on the floor will be the Strategic Energy Production Act.  That bill would require that for every draw down in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve a related number of leases for energy development on federal land must be approved.

Major Committee Action:

  • The House Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing on “JP Morgan Chase Trading Loss.”
  • The House Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing on the “Impact of the Endangered Species Act.”
  • The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will hold a business meeting on the “Attorney General Contempt Citation.”
  • The House Homeland Security Committee will hold a hearing on “Islamic Radicalization in theUS.”
  • TheHouse Waysand Means Committee will hold a hearing on “Russia’s WTO Accession.”


Senate Cloakroom: June 18 – June 22

Analysis:  This week the Senate will continue consideration of the Farm bill.  Majority Leader Reid (D-NV) has restricted amendments to the bill.  Conservative opposition is likely to continue to this bloated subsidy bill.  Sometime this week the Senate is likely to vote on a Congressional Review Act resolution of disapproval of the EPA’s Utility MACT rule.  Get Heritage’s take on that harmful rule here.

Major Floor Action: 

  • S 3240 – Agriculture Reform, Food, and Jobs Act of 2012 (Farm Bill)
  • SJ Res 37 – A joint resolution to disapprove a rule promulgated by the Administrator of the EPA relating to emission standards for certain steam generating units (Utility MACT)

Major Committee Action:

  • The Senate Finance Committee will hold a hearing on “Confronting the Looming Fiscal Crisis.”
  • The Senate Finance Committee will hold a hearing on “Russia’s WTO Accession.”
  • The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold a hearing on the “New START Treaty.”
  • The Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on “Money Market Mutual Funds.”
