Americans Deem Pres. Obama “Liberal”
A recent USA Today/Gallup poll asked Americans to rate their political ideology on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being very liberal and 5 being very conservative. The poll then asked Americans to rate the political ideology of President Obama. The results were astounding (but not surprising).
President Obama received an average rating of 2.3, putting him decidedly left-of-center and far from the claims that liberals try to make that he is a “moderate,” or even the hilarious attempts to classify him as “moderate Republican.”
Conversely, Americans rate themselves at an average of 3.3, very slightly right of center. Further, 42% of Americans describe themselves as conservative or very conservative, while only 19% would say they are liberal or very liberal. 37% describe themselves as moderate. That’s bad news for the Obama campaign, who has been pretending their candidate is moderate even while pushing liberal priorities.
Some 57% of Americans believe President Obama is liberal, while 23% see him as a moderate and just 15% (who are they?) see him as conservative.
President Obama might want to appeal to the middle-of-the-road voters, but it’s clear that his policies don’t align with that voting block; which is why his current policies stand to shore up support from the left-wing base.
Considering that 76% of Democrats approve of his job performance, while just 39% of moderates and 12% of Republicans approve, it’s clear that the President’s only chance at re-election is high liberal turnout, which is why his policies will continue to satisfy those voters (think Keystone pipeline) as we continue through 2012.
And that, should frighten us all.
