Analysis:  This week the House will begin to consider the Interior and Environment Appropriations Bill which will engage on several regulatory issues.  Throughout the rest of the week the chamber will take up two jobs bills, the North American-Made Energy Security Act and the Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act.  It is also likely that the House will take up additional legislation regarding the debt ceiling given the impending August 2nd deadline.

Major Committee Action:

  • The House Ways and Means Committee will hold a hearing on “Alternative Tax Systems.”
  • The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will hold a hearing on “ATF ‘Fast and Furious’ Weapons Operations.”
  • The House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will hold a hearing on “Credit Rating Agency Oversight.”
  • The House Armed Services Committee will hold a hearing on “’War on Terror’ Detention and Prosecution Assesment.”

 

Senate Cloakroom: July 25 – July 29

 

Analysis: It is unclear what the Senate will take up next week.  They will like consider a measure related to the debt ceiling and potentially one of the bills listed below.

  • The Senate Finance Committee will hold a hearing on “Tax Code and the Economy.”
  • The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee will hold a hearing on Middle Class Families and the American Dream.”
