200 More Obamacare Waivers Issued
204 more waivers have been issued to lucky business owners – as well as the states of Nevada and New Hampshire. The waivers – which are supposedly temporary – waive the requirement for company health plans to offer at least $750,000 worth of annual medical benefits.
This brings the total number of waivers granted by this administration to 1,372. President Obama and his administration claim that these Obamacare waivers are necessary to avoid disrupting the insurance market until the law completely overhauls the health insurance system in 2014. Basically, President Obama and his allies are picking and choosing what businesses to protect so that the 2,700 page healthcare monster doesn’t devour them.
What will happen to these businesses – and states – in 2014? The waivers will just delay the impact Obamacare will have on the insurance system until AFTER the President has a chance at reelection. How convenient.
When over 1,300 businesses and entire States get a waiver from a provision in Obamacare, it’s hard to argue that the law isn’t severely flawed – or a massive failure. Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) said in March:
“The fact that over 1,000 waivers have been granted is a tacit admission that the healthcare law is fundamentally flawed.”
Continuing to grant these waivers will only expose the law’s fatal flaws. When people see that so many businesses – and entire states – need a waiver in order to keep their insurance industry from collapsing it’s pretty clear that something is wrong with the law and it should be repealed. Only then can we have a real conversation about how to reform our health care system in a way that empowers patients and doctors, not Washington bureaucrats.
