Driving the Day: St. Patrick’s Day and March Madness
Happy St. Patrick’s Day and good luck with your college basketball brackets!
Today, the Senate is likely to approve the House-passed three-week funding measure. No surprises here, as most folks in Washington are looking toward the new deadline – April 8th. This week, conservatives made clear that additional short-term CRs are off the table.
And we get a bit of interesting news this morning from The Hill. An unnamed GOP leadership said, “It is very clear the House cannot pass a bill without policy restrictions.” The policy riders are an extremely important element of HR1 an a major reason many conservatives have opposed the short-term CRs. This is progress.
And finally, your absurd quote of the day. Yesterday, on National Public Radio, the Senate’s number two Democrat, Dick Durbin (D-IL) was asked if the President should be leading on the issue of entitlement reform. Durbin responded, “The President is leading. Uh…He is following at least what we’re doing in theory.”
Lead by following, it’s the new 2012 slogan.
