Action Alert: The 54 Representatives that Stood with us on the CR [out of date]

Last week, 54 Republican Representatives voted to stop the madness. They understood funding the government in week-long increments was the wrong way to approach a massive problem. Now is the time to stop playing politics and make the substantive, long-term decision to enact HR 1: cut federal spending and enact important policy riders.

If your Representative is on this list, send an email to thank him/her and encourage a continued commitment for long term spending cuts. Take action now.

If your Representative is not on the list, send an email encouraging a better choice next time. Current government funding runs out on April 8th. The next spending bill should run the duration of the fiscal year and include both the cuts and the policy riders of HR 1. Take action now.

  1. We must stop the spending now; no compromises. Defund Obama Care, Defund Plan Parenthood, and Defund NPR NOW!
Do what you promised to do in November. Draw the line in the sand; stand tall and defend the citzens of this land from ruin.

    • To offer up a 3rd party would do nothing but “split the vote”. Thus making a certain win for Mr. O if he dares to run again.

There will be enough good candidates running in 2012 that you will have a chance to get a fresh, new outlook. Just don’t make the mistake of picking anyone who has “formerly run”. Go Independent!

    • Don’t forget foreign aide. They never repay and are never there when we need help, FLOODS, KATRINA, etc. EXCEPT for Norway, all other countries have their hand out to take and never give.

  3. Either stop the spending or WE the voters must replace all Representatives and Senators, and when this is done, remove the President from office in 2012.

  5. Cornyn and Hutchison Why didn’t you oppose? We need the Obamacare defunded and to go away among other things. Represent us as to what we want.

    • Philip,

Cornyn and Hutchison are in the Senate. But I hope they will do their part and oppose it when and if the time comes.

  7. It’s clear what we need to do. We need to remove any Republican who supports these CR’s. We have to vote them out of power. I have been a Republican for many years, and I was a believer that we couldn’t support a third party, but I am on the verge of going over to the TEA Party. The Republican Party has too many RINO’s. They are almost as bad as the Democrats. If they don;t wake up they will find themselves on the outside looking in. The Republican party is losing it’s support among American conservatives, if they don’t start representing us as we ask they are done.

  9. My Representative is a Democrat and a fairly strong member in the House. Representative McIntyre stood with us on this one.
I think you should also publish Democrats who supported us. It requires a far stronger backbone than a person who supposedly is a Republican

    • I agree. I am an independent and feel all that voted, regardless of party affiliation, should be given credit.

    • Heritage Action opposed the short-term CR because it was bad on policy, came up short on cuts and was not a viable strategy. Those 54 Republicans agreed with us and opposed the CR for the exact same reasons, despite the insistence of their leadership. Ultimately, these 54 Republicans signaled the time for short-term CRs had come to an end. It was GOP “no” votes that changed the dynamics in Washington, not Democrat “no” votes.

In fairness, it is certainly possible that some Democrats opposed the CR for the very same reasons we outlined. However, given that zero Democrats voted in favor of HR1, the bill that included the policy riders and $61 billion in cuts, that is unlikely. The driving factor behind their opposition was that we’ve cut enough spending.

  11. I am a bit confused as to why these are heroes when most of the Democrats also voted “No”, even Pelosi.

    Ayes: R – 186 D – 85

    Noes: R – 54 D – 104

I figure that if it’s good the Dems will vote against it; and if it’s bad the Dems will vote for it. I guess I just don’t understand the issue here.

  13. I would like to congratulate the 54 congressman
that voted not to extend the goverment spending bill another 3 weeks.I called my Congressman
in Ohio and let him know how dissapointed I was
that he was in favor of the bill. Shame on him and all the rest of our congressman who voted to extend it.

  15. My AZ Representative is Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. I have a pretty good idea how she would vote if she were able. In the interim, having been born just a few miles south of Minnesota District 6 (now 79 years ago), I select Congresswoman Michele Bachmann as MY Representative. She did the right thing with the CR and will continue to do it. May God Bless her and America.

  17. The cuts proposed are only a small beginning. I was a govt employee for years and always felt the pay scale was tilted in my favor. I still always voted what seemed to be the conservative candidate. I say no more continuing resolutions with no possibility of back pay once a budget is achieved. Doing this would enrage govt employees and a solution would be agreed to. During the shutdown there would be less infringement on the freedoms we are supposed to enjoy. The exceptions of course would have to be emergency personnel and some (but not all) military operations.

  19. I’m disgusted with our representatives in Alaska except Don Young. Murkowski and Begich are not voting in our interest only their Liberal interest and spending us into bankruptcy.

  21. Congressman Shuster, I urge you to vote against all future continuing resolutions. The time has come to shut down the government if the Democrats won’t negotiate. We’ve got to stop spending our nation into bankruptcy.

  23. I attended a local town hall meeting 2 nights ago with my representative and expressed my disappoinment about him supporting the last contninuing resolution. He knows now that our district strongly supports defunding Obama care even if it means temporarily shutting down the government.

  25. I have called my congressperson (TX 23 Representative Canseco) to voice my displeasure. I do wish these guys would wake up and smell the coffee, it is time to say NO to keeping this gov’t working. SHUT IT DOWN!

  27. My Congressman is R. Bradley Miller, NC13, a flaming Liberal who was inexplicably reelected last November, much to my chagrin. Needless to say he was not on the list.

  29. We know the Dems don’t get it, but it seems many of the Republicans don’t either… 2012 will see conservatives and independents flock to the polls to not only oust the ‘Obamanation’ we have for a President and the unpatriotic, liberal Democrats in the House and Senate who are up for re-election, but also all the jellyfish RINO’s!

  31. Here’s is the ultimate answer to our problems.

    Congressional Reform Act of 2011

    1. Terms limits, (12 years only), one of the possible options below:
    A. Two six year senate terms
    B. Six two year house terms
    C. One six year senate term and three two year house terms

    2. No tenure/ no pension. A congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

    3. Congress, (past, present & future0, participates in Social Security. All the funds in the congressional retirement fund move to the social security system immediately. All future funds flow into the social security system, and congress participates with the American people.

    4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

    5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

    6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

    7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

    8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12.

    9. All federal employees must also be part of social securtiy and the same health care system as the American people; retroactive to the oldest retiree. All funds must be transferred immediately.

    10. Federal employees wages must be brought into line with the private sector.

The American people did not make this ocntract with Congressman. Congressman made all these contracts for themselves.

This is the door to real change in Washington. This is what our forefathers had intended. A citizen government, not professional politicians.

Many of our amendments were passed due to public pressure in less than a year before cell phones, the internet, etc. Pass this on to everyone you know.

If you dont we will clean house of everyone. This is out of control and you can repeal the hlth care bill too if you want. Just stop spending. Make believe you are talking to your wife and tell her to stop it and take the check book away and the credit cards away from her. Or send them to a therapist but cut the crap
