Driving the Day: Jobs Czar and Cap-and-Trade
Later today, President Obama will announce that the head of General Electric will head up a new job board. Jeffrey Immelt will chair the President’s new ‘President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness’.
In the Washington Post, Immelt wrote:
GE sells more than 96 percent of its products to the private sector, where America’s future must be built. But government can help business invest in our shared future. A sound and competitive tax system and a partnership between business and government on education and innovation in areas where America can lead, such as clean energy, are essential to sustainable growth.
Note the word, ENERGY. Immelt has been a long time proponent of cap-and-trade, which would destroy jobs and hurt America’s competitiveness. A Heritage analysis of the Kerry-Boxer cap-and-trade bill found it would destroy up to 2.5 million jobs in some years, result in $4.6 trillion in higher energy costs and raise gasoline by $1.20 per gallon.
This is our jobs czar?
And don’t forget, GE is a founding member of the U.S. Climate Action Partnership, “a group of businesses and leading environmental organizations that have come together to call on the federal government to quickly enact strong national legislation to require significant reductions of greenhouse gas emissions.”
This is more of the same – big government and big business siding with one another to the detriment of American families, consumers and competitiveness.
