Heritage Action Sends Direct Mail, Rallies Opposition on New START

Blog Articles · Nov 3, 2010

As reported in The Washington Times today, Heritage Action began sending mailers into ten targeted states, urging Senators to oppose President Obama's New START Treaty. Heritage Action's CEO Michael Needham told the Washington Times:

We have serious policy concerns with President Obama's new START Treaty. For too long, senators have stood quietly on the sidelines, refusing to take a firm stand on the issue. Given the administration's desire to see the treaty ratified during a lame-duck session, Americans deserve to know what is at stake and where their senators stand.

The mailers come on the same day as the Russian parliament revoked their decision to ratify the treaty, citing actions taken by the U.S. Senate.

The text from our Massachusetts mailer is below:

URGENT: Who will defend us?

OUR NATIONAL SECURITY IS AT STAKE. WILL YOU ACT?

WHO IS LOOKING OUT FOR US?

President Obama and his allies in Congress are using a special, 'lame duck' session to ram through a deeply flawed arms reduction treaty (START) that benefits Russia's interests, not ours.

This disastrous plan limits our own missile defense capabilities and severely weakens our national security.

Though President Obama claims START will reduce nuclear weapons, in fact, it will only lead to more nuclear weapons in the hands of rogue countries like Iran and North Korea-countries who want to destroy us.

Call Senators Kerry and Brown today at (202) 224-3121 and tell them to put our national security first: Oppose the START Treaty!
